Farmer’s Markets are a great way to buy a variety of fresh produce at low prices and support local farmers and business at the same time. Atleast that’s what I’m told. A couple weekends ago, Tim and I headed to our local Farmer’s Market to check it out.
There was a huge selection of fruits, veggies, cheeses, canned goods, and even plants.
One thing confused me though. Several of the different vegetables had stickers on them that said things like “Peru”, “Mexico”, “Utah”, etc. I guess I was just always under the impression that Farmer’s Markets only sold local produce. Apparently that’s not necessarily true.
I didn’t end up buying any of the produce, but I did come home with several jars of canned goods.
Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, Vegetable Soup, Pickled Squash and Onions, Hot & Spicy Pickles, Bread & Butter Pickles and Corn Relish. Mmmmm! 🙂
So what’s the deal with the “foreign” produce? Is this typical?
